Trenert Group reveals development plans for a $1.2b world-class mixed-use precinct in the heart of the 2032 Gabba Olympic and Paralympic hub

This morning at a joint Media Release, the Deputy Premier, Minister for State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning and Minister Assisting the Premier on Olympics Infrastructure, Stephen Miles, and Trenert Group Managing Partner Peter Priest, announced what is being hailed as “the most significant example of private investment in Brisbane encouraged by the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.”

The project builds on major Government investment in the area, including the new Gabba Stadium, a centrepiece of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. It will be the doorstop of the Cross River Rail Woolloongabba Station and the Gabba Metro Station and includes facilities to complement the Games, including a public plaza for broadcasting sport and hosting activations.

Trenert has retained award-winning international practice DBI Design to create a destination that showcases the best of what Brisbane has to offer and who we are as a global city.

According to DBI, the precinct will be transformed into a dynamic new urban village that integrates the heritage-listed Railway Hotel and Woolloongabba Post Office. The $1.2b urban renewal includes lifestyle focussed private and affordable housing, a new community park, a green bridge connecting to the Cross River Rail Woolloongabba Station forecourt, as well as a five-star hotel with executive suites and exclusive penthouse residences, two highly-amenitized commercial office towers and a multilevel F&B/retail plaza several landscaped open-air or mixed-mode terraces. The site is also directly adjacent to the future BCC Gabba Metro station giving the precinct unparalleled access to transit and creating active transport links to the city and beyond.

Trenert says the precinct will follow the lead of other successful urban renewals, such as James Street, West Village and Fish Lane, with substantial re-greening, quality architecture and boutique retail, making the Gabba a place that champions sustainability and creates a lasting social legacy.

Mr Priest noted that the project team intends to deliver the precinct by 2030—two years ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Games and will announce a major JV delivery partner in the coming weeks. “The Government investment in transformational infrastructure, including the new Gabba Stadium, Cross River Rail and Brisbane Metro, are the catalysts for the redevelopment of this important site, and we are proposing an investment in that vision.”
